Income tax rules

Tax slabs for both regimes, the Section 87A rebate, standard deductions, capital gains rates (LTCG 12.5% + 4% cess above ₹1.25 lakh, STCG 20%), TDS thresholds, the ₹20 lakh gratuity exemption, and HRA metro classification come from the Income Tax Department: incometax.gov.in. Rechecked after each Union Budget and every 12 months.

Small-savings rates

PPF (7.1% p.a., ₹1.5 lakh cap) and SSY (8.2% p.a.) rates come from the National Savings Institute: nsiindia.gov.in. Rechecked quarterly.

EPF

The EPF interest rate (8.25% p.a. for FY 2025-26) comes from the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation: epfindia.gov.in. Rechecked annually after the EPFO board sets the fiscal-year rate.

NPS rules

The 40% minimum annuity requirement and the ₹50,000 Section 80CCD(1B) deduction come from the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority: pfrda.org.in, and the Income Tax Department for the deduction limit.

City salary context

The salary benchmarks that give city pages their context come from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation's Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) report on wages in million-plus cities: mospi.gov.in. These are context only and are rechecked when a newer applicable report is published.

Stamp duty and registration

Stamp duty and registration rates come from each state's official registration authority. Rechecked every 12 months.

Professional tax

Professional tax rates come from the levying state's official portal: Maharashtra (mahagst.gov.in), Telangana (tgct.gov.in), Karnataka (ptax.karnataka.gov.in), Haryana (skill.haryana.gov.in), Delhi (udd.delhi.gov.in), and Uttar Pradesh (niveshmitra.up.nic.in). Delhi and Uttar Pradesh currently show no levy for salaried employees.
